Konzepte Melbourne brings together a team of architects, designers and thinkers from across three cities: Kuala Lumpur, Melbourne and Phnom Penh. Our carefully assembled, inter-disciplinary team of experts combines an extensive body of technical knowledge with an intrinsic intercultural intelligence. Thus, we create outcomes which respond to very specific needs of the environments we operate in and the communities whom we serve.

Our work spans typologies, scales, and domains, and we draw inspiration from a multitude of fields, reaching across disciplines to extend our collective learnings through all our projects. Our experience in a variety of markets and cultures also means that we’re able to take the best of cutting edge know-how and couple that with time-tested, local techniques to create an effective hightech-lowtech synthesis.

Beyond Bricks and Mortar

We are as invested in the way buildings work and the outcomes they facilitate as we are in the way they look. Because we think conditionally, environmentally and situationally, our preoccupations go beyond the realm of mere concrete and steel. While form and aesthetics are powerful and intentional by-products of effective design, our priority is to create the best possible conditions to enable communities to thrive.

Creating Measurable Value

We create spaces and build environments that work hard. Our interest lies in an expanded bottomline - generating value that is multi-dimensional, over and above strong financial outcomes. This often means developing in-house/ client-specific/context- specific metrics to assign value to less tangible yet significant yields, such as how healthy our buildings are to live in, how intuitive they are to navigate, what greater productivity their spaces engender, and what richness of community life they foster.

We believe in a value ecosystem - in creating spaces that return financially, build identity, and empower communities.

Designing Design

Great design demands critical thinking. That’s why we value the processes that enable it - from the way our teams are assembled, to the tools that we use, to the narratives we reference. At Konzepte, design, strategy, and craft coalesce through an inclusive, discursive design process. Ideas are openly interrogated across disciplines before they are methodically documented and carefully deployed.

This means that whether we are undertaking strategic urban scale planning, rethinking housing, or developing new typologies for healthcare, ideas are put through a rigorous process of innovating, questioning and prototyping, resulting in powerful design outcomes.

Responsive Thinking

Design is not a mythical act nor is it sleight of hand; it is never detached nor accidental. Rather, it is a process of connecting intentional choices and well-considered actions. It is constantly informed by both tangible and intangible input, and motivated by the desire to arrive at impactful outcomes.

We are a thinking practice. We ask good questions to initiate curious ideas, which go on to solve big issues.

Bringing Ideas Together

Partnership remains at the heart of all that we do - with our clients, their clients, and ultimately the communities who live, work and play in the environments that we create. Often our role is one of a curator: assembling the right minds and expertise, and enabling cross-disciplinary dialogue around a shared outcome. Our process facilitates a design marketplace where a healthy exchange of ideas and knowledge can occur.
